9:30-10:25 a.m. Observation of Mrs. Evans 1st grade class
Episode:
I had a lot of difficulty with my tutoring session this morning. She acted like she did not want to complete any of the work that she was supposed to complete. She had a lot of difficulty with her vocabulary words and a few of her spelling words. Then she tried to complete her midyear assessment for math when she started guessing when trying to complete the problems. Mrs. VanMeter had discussed with me before our tutoring session that when she tried to complete the midyear assessment on Monday she had guessed and did poorly. She wanted her to retake the assessment. I had to point out that she needed to set up the problems so she could work it out to get the correct answer. She just completely quit answering my questions when trying to redirect her attention.
Analysis:
My intrapersonal skills were tested today. I tried a few different approaches to helping her complete her work. I felt like I was not getting through to her today. This was the most problems I have had with her staying on task and feeling like she knew what to do to complete the task at hand. I need to learn more approaches to redirect her to complete a task. I feel like I could have done more to help her if she would have felt like completing her work today.
